Certainly not worth $135 if you don't have a good analog rig, but I have to admit that I'm tempted. Even mint copies of WB's commercial releases from that era leave a lot to be desired. The mid-fi mastering and pressing took away some of the detail as well as some of the energy in the low frequencies, and introduced tracking distortions particularly in the inner grooves.

As much as I prefer analog, my commercial LP copies don't sound as good as the 24/96 DVD releases of Workingman's Dead and American Beauty, or arguably even as good as the HDCD releases. I'm delighted to see these LPs were made from analog masters. Assuming the cutting and pressing are high-quality, they should permit the best possible reproduction--if, that is, your analog rig is up to snuff.

I've accumulated four LP copies of the Aoxomoxoa original mix over the years, but none of them is perfect, and of course they are all the WB commercial releases of the time. To hear that mix in a pristine reproduction after all these years? Mmmmm.

1st post here. $135 for 5 albums. Good music on good vinyl with good mastering would be worth that price. This opinion is based on $17 per disc for Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab pressings over 20 years ago. American Beauty is gorgeous! The Rhino discs are priced for the Dead niche. Had I the disposable income I would be very inclined to buy them. I don't have the early albums. I have a turntable and a decent sound system.

Along with the 1st post comes obligatory praise for the forum and many thanks for knowledge shared for all to benefit.
